“Keep a clear eye toward life’s end. Do not forget your purpose and destiny as God’s creature. Remember that when you leave this earth, you can take nothing you have received, but only what you have given: a full heart enriched by honest service, love, sacrifice, and courage.”St Francis of Assisi
The Footsteps of
St Francis of Assisi
SD Care was founded on the Franciscan philosophy of healthcare, which holds that every person, regardless of their circumstances, deserves to be treated with the greatest dignity and respect. This is not a marketing claim. It is a way of working that shapes every hire, every care plan, and every visit.
The name of our parent company, San Damiano Corporation, takes its name from the sanctuary of San Damiano in Assisi, hidden in the picturesque Umbrian hills. It was from this quiet place that St Francis drew his deepest inspiration. Our founder, Francis Mirandah, visited Assisi and returned compelled by the same call.
“I felt a burning need to bring back with me a memory of the sense of inner peace and joy I felt walking in the footsteps of St Francis in Assisi. He had pierced my heart with a need to help others like he did and transformed my mind to look for God’s beauty in everything that surrounded me.”
Francis Mirandah, Founder & CEO, SD GroupThe Franciscan healthcare model has inspired some of the most respected institutions in modern medicine, including the Mayo Clinic. Closer to home, the Mount Alvernia Hospital in Guildford was founded and run by Franciscan nuns for decades. We carry that same spirit into every home we enter across Surrey and London.
“St Francis of Assisi taught me that there is a wound in the Creation, and that the greatest use we could make of our lives was to ask to be made a healer of it.”
J. Alan Paton“Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace. Where there is hatred, let me sow love. Where there is injury, pardon. Where there is despair, hope. Where there is darkness, light.”
Prayer of St FrancisHow SD Care
Grew and Expanded
What began as a nursing agency supplying care homes in Surrey has grown into a comprehensive, regulated home care group serving families across Surrey, Greater London, and through our wellness subsidiary, Omnia Lifestyle. Each step of the journey has been guided by the same founding conviction: that compassionate care, delivered properly, can transform lives.
We run our business by prioritising the needs of clients and staff. We believe that quality, technology, and innovation are the key drivers of productivity, and that an ethical business can contribute as much to the human condition as any charity or foundation.

The Truths We
Abide By
These are not aspirations or marketing commitments. They are the operating principles that have guided every decision since we opened our doors in 2012.
Dignity and Respect for Every Person
We hold to the Franciscan belief that all people are created in God’s image and deserve the greatest dignity and respect we can give. This shapes how we recruit, train, and supervise every carer on our team.
Humility, Compassion, and Love
The Franciscan values of humility, compassion, and love are not abstract ideals. They are practical guides to how we speak with families, how we enter homes, and how we respond when things are difficult.
Holistic Care for the Whole Person
We believe that healing has both physical and spiritual dimensions. Care that looks only after the body, while neglecting the mind and spirit, is incomplete. We nurture the whole person at every visit.
Ethical Business, Not Shareholder Profit
We do not believe that maximising shareholder wealth is the best use of our resources. Our objective is to improve the human condition. To that end, we commit a meaningful portion of our earnings to humanitarian causes.
Technology and Quality as Drivers
We leverage technology to enhance efficiency, document care accurately, and communicate with families in real time. Quality, innovation, and measurement are central to everything we do. Our ISO certification reflects this commitment.
Dedicated to the Unique Needs of Each Person
Generic care is not really care at all. We build every package around the individual: their preferences, their routines, their cultural background, and their personal wishes. No two care plans are ever the same.
Meet Olive Paul
Olive Paul
Registered Manager, SD Care Agency
Hailing from Singapore, Olive co-founded SD Care in 2012 after completing her Masters in Healthcare Management at the University of Surrey. During her postgraduate training, she worked at the Eashing Ward for the Elderly at the Royal Surrey Hospital NHS Trust in Guildford, an experience that shaped her approach to care profoundly.
Her work with vulnerable adults began after she completed her Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Curtin University in Perth, Australia. In all, she has accumulated more than three decades of experience in social care and nursing across three countries: Singapore, Australia, and the United Kingdom. She brings diversity, cultural perspective, and extraordinary depth of experience to everything she leads. Olive speaks Mandarin fluently, among several languages.
“Someone wise once said: if you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help someone.”
“I found my happiness in helping people, especially the elderly and vulnerable in society. It has always made me feel good.”
“The Franciscan model is care that is not just physical, but emotional as well. Giving people the will to fight on. Not just for themselves, but for their families. For the carer who sits with them, tells stories, laughs with them, and is there in the middle of the night when they are frightened.”
Omnia Lifestyle
Pain Relief and Management
A common theme in the lives of the people we care for is pain and suffering. While home care addresses the practical and personal dimensions of daily life, many of the people we support need something more: effective, evidence-based pain relief that goes beyond short-term medication. Omnia Lifestyle was created to provide exactly that.
Based in leafy Chiswick, London, Omnia is our specialist pain relief and management clinic. It brings together cutting-edge technology and time-tested traditional therapies under one roof, offering a holistic, patient-centred approach that follows NICE guidelines for chronic pain management.
Three Overlapping Approaches
Omnia Therapies
Evidence-based treatment of acute and chronic pain, from Photobiomodulation and Compression Therapy to Acupuncture and Ayurveda. Clients choose the therapies that work best for them.
Omnia Lifestyle

Good Causes and
Humanitarian Commitments
“We aspire to operate an ethical business model which puts humility and compassion to our fellow men and women above all else. We recognise that all people are created equal with a right to be treated with dignity and respect.”
We are neither a charity nor a foundation. We believe that true entrepreneurial activity can be directed to serve a higher mission than traditional business aims. To that end, we dedicate a meaningful portion of our earnings to humanitarian causes that reflect our Franciscan values.
Our primary cause is providing moral and financial support to a Carmelite community carrying out missionary work in the Central African Republic, one of the five poorest countries in the world despite its abundant natural resources. Every year, San Damiano Corporation Ltd makes generous donations to support their projects.
In 2023, thanks to SD Care’s contributions, more than thirty young students in the Central African Republic gained access to education. We have also contributed to the building of a new school in some of the most impoverished areas of India, with a $10,000 donation, giving children the opportunity of a brighter future.
